Choice of materials, fastenings etc. are discussed after which I will draw up a quotation. The quotation includes the cost of all fabrics and materials needed for the garment and the cost of my labour. Once agreed then a detailed set of measurements will be taken (either by myself in person, or by form if ordering by mail order). Payment for materials is due at this point and will not be refundable From those measurements a mock up, or ‘Toile’ will be made in a simple fabric to check the design and finetune fit before cutting the main fabric. This can be done in person, or the toile is posted to you to try on at home. You can add comments about style, fit and any alterations that need to be made on the toile itself and return it to me. Then the main garment is made. If you are local, then you can arrange appointments for further interim fittings. When the item is complete, it is ready for collection or is posted to you. Q - What forms of payment do you accept?A – If ordering in person I will accept cash otherwise I will accept cheques made payable to ‘Absinthe’s Kiss’ and Paypal. For custom items there are three payment stages: First is when the order is received for materials. Second is payable for the toile and fitting. The final is payable when the item is finished and ready for collection or posting. Please note items are NOT released until payment is received in full. If paying by cheque, items will be released for posting or collection when the cheque has cleared. |
Q - What about corsetry? I do make corsets to order from all eras. Prices vary widely according to the era, fabrics and design. Feel free to contact me for a quote.Q – Do you only make clothing or costume for larger sizes? A – No, custom orders from all sizes are welcome. I have found people like myself (currently a UK 22) have trouble finding things they love in a size that fits, so many of my ready made items are made with them in mind. Q – What about historical accuracy? Are your items suitable for re-enactment? A – It varies from item to item. However I will say this about historical accuracy. In the past there was a much richer level of general craftsmanship in the past than is available now, yet we have made great leaps forward in terms of materials and technology. One of the things I love about Live Role Playing over re-enactment is that it allows a greater freedom in costume design, to use modern tricks, and to let your imagination go a little wild. In the Hollywood films of the 1950’s medieval women wore bras and their gown used seams and darts that were not available for centuries later, but they still looked beautiful.I love to copy and be inspired by historical costume, but if you are planning on wearing any ready made items for re-enactment, check with your group first. |
